feature you require is only available in Visual Studio 2010, you can import your solution to Visual Studio 2010 and continue your development The main reason for importing a WSP to Visual Studio 2010 is that you want to leverage features available in Visual Studio 2010 to further customize your SharePoint site or your workflows For example, you spent a substantial amount of time to develop a workflow and workflow task forms in SharePoint Designer and you don t want to throw that work away, yet you need to use Visual Studio 2010 to extend your workflow by adding custom activities and using NET code Importing a workflow sounds like a much better solution than spending time re-designing and re-developing workflows you already developed once Before we can import the workflow we created in the previous section we need to export it to a WSP file This can be done with either SharePoint Designer or through a SharePoint site Note that from a SharePoint site you can only export the full site and not just workflows To export workflow only, you need to use SharePoint Designer If for any reason you can t use SharePoint Designer to export the workflow you can still export the whole site from SharePoint and when importing the WSP you can choose which SharePoint items you want to bring over to Visual Studio 2010 Let s try exporting a reusable workflow to a WSP file from SharePoint Designer 1 Open SharePoint Designer and select the Workflows item in the Site Objects pane 2 Select My SPD Workflow from the list of Reusable Workflows as shown in Figure 8-29 3 Click the Save as Template button SharePoint Designer packages the workflow in a WSP file and uploads it to the Site Assets library on the SharePoint site 4 Open the Internet browser and navigate to the Site Assets library You can click the Libraries link to get to the list of all libraries on the current SharePoint site and then navigate to the Site Assets Library shown in Figure 8-30 5 Click on the exported workflow and save the file.
